Privacy Policy
What this website collects, why we need it, who we share it with, and the rights you have under UAE law.
Last updated: 26 October 2026
Methaq Takaful Insurance P.S.C. (“Methaq”, “we”, “us”, “our”) operates this website. This policy explains what personal information the website collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have under United Arab Emirates law.
It applies to this website only. Our mobile app has its own separate policy, which you can read at methaq.ae/app-privacy. The two describe the same business and the same principles, but the app and the website are different products, so a few details differ. Where they do, we say so.
If you have any question about this policy, or you want to exercise any of your rights, contact us on 600 565 695 or at compliance@methaq.ae.
Report a Data Privacy Incident
If you become aware of any actual or suspected loss, unauthorized access, disclosure or misuse of personal or health information, please report it immediately to: privacy@methaq.ae
1. You do not need an account
You can browse this website, ask us to contact you and go through the motor insurance quote journey without signing in. Customer accounts are not currently offered on this website, and no part of the public journey asks you to create one.
When you start a motor quote, your browser creates a random reference number and keeps it on your own device. It lets us keep your quote requests visible to you when you come back, without knowing who you are. That number is generated at random by the website. It is not your device serial number, not an advertising ID, and on its own it does not identify you personally.
2. What we collect, and why
We only collect information when you actively use a feature, with two exceptions explained in section 4: if you agree, Google Analytics measures which pages of this website are used; and if a page breaks, an error report is sent so we can fix it. We do not track you across other websites.
a) When you ask us to contact you
Our enquiry forms — the contact form and the short form on some product pages — collect what an advisor needs in order to call you back:
Your name, mobile number and email address — so an advisor can reach you
The emirate you are in — so your enquiry goes to the right team
What you are asking about — the product, and for medical cover the plan type, the age range, and the number of family members or employees where that applies
Anything you type into the message box, and whether you would rather be called or emailed
Technical details your browser sends with any request: the page you were on, the page that referred you, the language you were reading in, your browser's user-agent string, and your IP address. These are recorded with the enquiry so we can tell where it came from and protect the forms from abuse
When you submit an enquiry we email you a confirmation with your reference number, and we email the Methaq department that handles that product so somebody can pick it up.
b) When you request a motor insurance quote
To price motor insurance we need to know who you are and what you drive. UAE insurance regulation requires us to verify this from official documents, so the quote journey asks you to photograph them or upload a file.
Photographs of your Emirates ID, front and back — to read your name, Emirates ID number, date of birth and nationality. These affect the price and are legally required to issue a policy
Photographs of your UAE driving licence, front and back — to read your licence details and the date you were first licensed, because driving experience affects the price
Photographs of your vehicle registration card (Mulkiya), front and back — to read the chassis number, plate, make, model and year, which identify the vehicle being insured
In some cases, proof of ownership or a trade licence — only where the vehicle is not registered in your own personal name
The information printed on those documents, read automatically from the photographs (see section 3)
Your name, mobile number and email address, which you type in — so an advisor can contact you about your quote
Your no-claims history, which you select — it determines your discount
Your signature on the No-Claims Discount Self-Declaration where one applies. UAE insurance rules require a signed declaration before a no-claims discount can be approved, so we record your typed name, the exact wording you were shown and the language it was shown in, the date and time, the website version, and your device reference — we must be able to show what was signed, when, and by whom
Your existing policy number, if you are renewing, so we can find your existing policy and you do not have to re-submit every document
c) When you ask for a health insurance quote
The health quote journey shows you Methaq's plans and prices, where they can be shown online, before it asks for your name. It asks for no identity document and takes no payment: a Methaq advisor calls you to complete the cover. It collects:
Who the cover is for and your residence visa: the type of visa (for example employee, investor or Golden visa, or that you sponsor a relative or a domestic worker), the emirate that issued it and, for a Golden visa, whether you are an employee, an investor or self-sponsored — to find the plans you can be covered by, and to price them
About you: your date of birth, your gender and marital status where the cover needs them, and your monthly salary band — age, gender and marital status affect the price, and the salary band decides which plans you can be written on. We ask for a band, never for your salary itself
The people on the cover: for each spouse, child, parent, other relative or domestic worker, their name, date of birth and gender, and where it matters their marital status and how they are related to you — to price each person, and to check that the household makes sense (for example, that a parent is older than you)
A simple yes-or-no health declaration, made once for everyone on the cover: whether anyone has an existing or long-term medical condition, or is taking regular medication or having ongoing treatment. If you declare yes, no price is shown online and an advisor finds the right plan with you. We never ask for medical records, diagnoses or dates
A yes-or-no maternity declaration for each married woman aged 18 to 50 on the cover: whether she is pregnant or planning a pregnancy, and whether it has been 30 days or more since her last period. No dates are asked. Pregnancy affects the cover and the price; if you declare yes, no price is shown online and an advisor goes through the plans with you
Your agreement to our use of your health and maternity declarations, which you give by ticking a box before they are used. We record the version of the words you agreed to, the language you read them in and the time
The plan you choose, if a price was shown, and your name, mobile number and email address, with your agreement that an advisor may contact you — so an advisor can call you and prepare your policy. Your request reaches Methaq's health team at this point
Your answers and declarations are kept only in the page's memory while the journey is open. The website never saves them on your device — not in a cookie, not in your browser's storage and not in the page address — so reloading or closing the page clears them and the journey starts again. They leave your browser only when the journey needs them: the answers that set the price (never the health declaration) to calculate prices, and everything together when you send your request.
Your health and maternity declarations are sensitive personal data. We use them only to decide whether a price can be shown online and to let your advisor prepare your quote and your cover, and only with the agreement you give on the health declaration step. You can withdraw that agreement at any time (section 9); we then stop using them for your quote, except where the law requires us to keep them. Google Analytics does not measure the health quote journey at all (section 4).
Other people's details. When you give us details or declarations about your spouse, children, relatives or domestic worker, you confirm that you are allowed to share them with Methaq for this quote (for a child, as their parent or guardian).
If you already have Methaq health cover and want to renew it, the journey takes a shorter route: a call-back request. It asks for your Emirates ID number, your policy or e-card number, the emirate that issued your residence visa and your contact details and, where the website offers it, lets you add a photo or PDF of your Methaq e-card. These go to your advisor as you typed them, so they can find your policy before they call you; the website does not check them against our records. An e-card photo is stored privately on Methaq's own systems in Abu Dhabi, inside the UAE, after its hidden location and camera details have been removed, and it is not sent to the text-recognition service described in section 3. This route asks for no health or maternity declaration, so it records no separate agreement to the use of health data.
How long we keep it: the website's own record of your health quote request, on Methaq's server, is deleted automatically 180 days after you send it. If sending does not complete, it is deleted after 15 days. The request passed to Methaq's health team, with your details, your declarations and any e-card photo, is kept like any other quote record (section 7).
We do not ask for, and this website does not collect: your bank details, your card details, your location, your contacts, or anything about how you use other websites. It asks about your salary only as a band, and only for a health insurance quote (section 2(c)). Apart from the simple yes-or-no health and maternity declarations described there, it does not ask about your health, and it never asks for medical records, diagnoses or dates. The website never asks your browser for your location, and it cannot open your camera or read your files on its own — you choose each photograph or file yourself.
d) When you use the chat
Some pages carry a live chat with an automated assistant and, during working hours, a human advisor. It is operated for us by VioneX Technologies. We collect the messages you send and a separate guest chat identity for your browser. The chat is a third-party component, and it may store its own data in your browser in order to keep your conversation going between pages. Please do not send documents, card numbers or passwords in the chat.
e) When you pay
No payment is taken on this website. If your quote is approved and you choose to pay, we send you to a secure payment page operated by our licensed payment provider, which opens in a new browser tab. Your card details are entered on that page and go directly to that provider. This website never sees, handles or stores your card details.
3. Automatic reading of your documents (please read this section)
To save you typing, the photographs you supply are sent to an automated text-recognition service which reads the printed details off them and returns them to the website. That service is operated by VioneX Technologies, which processes the images only on Methaq's instructions and only to extract the printed text — for no other purpose.
Your browser never sends your documents to that service directly. Every image goes to Methaq's own server first, and our server passes it on. This is deliberate: it means the key that unlocks the reading service is never published in the website's code, and every image crosses one boundary we control.
Where this happens: this text-recognition service currently runs on servers located in Germany. This means the photographs of your Emirates ID, driving licence and vehicle registration are processed outside the UAE for the short time they are being read. We do this on the basis of your consent and because it is necessary to process the quote you asked for; VioneX is contractually bound to process the images only for this purpose and to keep them secure; and the details read from your documents, and all of your other information, are stored on Methaq's own servers inside the UAE (see section 6).
While you are still checking whether a photograph can be read, the image is held only in our server's memory for the moment it takes to read it, and is then dropped. It is not written to disk. Only when you submit your completed request are your documents saved to your file at Methaq.
The results are checked automatically, and if a document cannot be read clearly the website asks you to photograph it again. Although this reading is automated, no decision about you is made solely by automated means — a Methaq advisor reviews every request before any policy is issued, and you can ask for a human review of anything that was decided automatically.
4. Cookies, and what this website stores in your browser
This website sets two cookies of its own:
i18next — remembers whether you are reading in English or Arabic, so the site opens in your language next time. It lasts one year and contains nothing but the language code. We also read your browser's own language setting when this cookie is not present
methaq_consent — remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies, so we do not ask you again on every page. It lasts one year and contains nothing but your choice and a version number. A copy of the same choice is kept in your browser's storage, so a browser that clears cookies early does not ask you again.
Analytics cookies are set only if you press Accept on the cookie banner. If you do, Google Analytics (operated by Google as our service provider) sets its own cookies (_ga and _ga_…) and records which pages you view, how you arrived at the site, your device and browser type, and your approximate area (city level). Google Analytics uses your IP address only to work out that approximate area and does not store it. Page addresses are cleaned before they are sent: reference numbers and anything after the "?" are removed, and your own request, payment and account pages, and every page of the health insurance quote journey, are not measured at all. Advertising features are switched off: nothing is used for advertising, ad personalisation or Google signals. If you press Decline, or never answer, nothing is loaded from Google at all. You can change your mind at any time from "Cookie settings" at the foot of every page; withdrawing stops Google Analytics straight away and deletes its cookies. There are no advertising cookies on this website, and we do not use the Meta pixel or any comparable advertising tool.
Some things are stored in your browser's own storage rather than as cookies. These stay on your device, are not sent to advertisers, and you can clear them at any time by clearing your browsing data:
The random device reference described in section 1, so your quote requests stay reachable when you come back
A session token for the motor quote journey, so reloading a page does not lose your place. The short-lived part of that token is kept only in the page's memory and is never written to storage at all
A short list of the quote requests you have submitted — the reference number, the vehicle description, the cover type, the status and the date. It holds no name, no Emirates ID number and no document
Your display preferences for the site
If you sign in to a Methaq account in future, a sign-in cookie called userToken is set to keep you signed in. It is set only when you sign in.
The chat described in section 2(d) is supplied by VioneX Technologies and may set its own cookies or browser storage to keep your conversation going. We do not control what that component stores.
Error reports: if a page on this website breaks, a short technical report is sent to Sentry, our error-monitoring provider, so we can find and fix the fault. It contains the page address (without anything after the "?"), your browser and device type, and the technical details of the error. Before it leaves your device we remove names, email addresses, phone numbers, Emirates ID numbers, plate and policy numbers and anything typed into a form, and we do not send your IP address; Sentry is set not to store it, and keeps only the approximate country and city the report came from. Sentry sets no cookies.
5. Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We share it only as follows:
VioneX Technologies (document reading) — receives the document photographs, to read the printed text. Processes on our instructions only
VioneX Technologies (chat) — receives your chat messages and your guest chat identity, to operate the chat
Our email delivery provider — receives your name, email address and the details of your enquiry, because that is how your confirmation email and the advisor's notification are delivered
Our licensed payment provider — its secure payment page collects your card details directly. Methaq never receives your card number through this website
Google (Google Analytics) — only if you accept analytics cookies: which pages you view, your device and browser type and your approximate area, to give us usage statistics. Not used for advertising
Sentry (error monitoring) — the scrubbed error reports described in section 4, to help us fix faults
AutoData — receives the vehicle details, including the chassis number, in order to identify your car and return its specification and market value. It is sent from our server, not from your browser, and it does not receive your name, your Emirates ID number or your contact details
Regulators, insurers and authorities — receive whatever the law requires, so that we meet our obligations under UAE insurance, anti-fraud and anti-money-laundering law
Methaq staff — specifically the advisor handling your request — can see your quote, your documents and your contact details, because they need them to serve you.
6. Where your data is held
Methaq's own systems — your enquiry, your quote, your documents and your policy record — run on Oracle Cloud in Abu Dhabi, inside the UAE. The chat runs on Oracle Cloud in Abu Dhabi as well.
The document text-recognition service described in section 3 runs in Germany. It applies only to the document images while they are being read, and the details read from them come back to be stored inside the UAE.
Two more services process data outside the UAE: error reports (section 4) are stored by Sentry on servers in Germany, and, only if you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics data is processed on Google's servers outside the UAE.
Email is delivered through an international email provider, as all business email is.
7. How long we keep it
Where UAE law sets a minimum retention period, we keep records for at least that long, even if you ask us to delete them:
Photographs held in your browser while you are filling in the quote — only until your request is sent. They are held in the page's memory and are gone when you close the tab
Photographs you submitted, and your quote and policy record — for as long as we are handling your request and, if you become a customer, for the life of your policy. After that, for the minimum periods UAE law requires us to keep insurance and financial records: at least 5 years under UAE anti-money-laundering law, and 10 years or more for records the Central Bank of the UAE requires an insurer to retain
A health insurance quote request — the website's own record on Methaq's server for 180 days after you send it (15 days if sending does not complete), then deleted automatically. The request passed to Methaq's health team, with any e-card photo, is kept like any quote record in the bullet above
Signed No-Claims Declarations — retained for the period required by UAE insurance law (10 years)
Chat messages — for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and a reasonable period afterwards for quality and dispute-resolution purposes
What is stored in your browser — the language cookie and your cookie choice last one year; Google Analytics cookies, if you accepted them, last up to two years unless you withdraw; everything else in section 4 stays until you clear your browsing data
Google Analytics data — kept for the period set in our Google Analytics account, at most 14 months
Error reports — kept by Sentry for at most 90 days, then deleted
An enquiry you send through one of our forms is kept for 2 years if you do not go on to take out a policy. Those forms collect your contact details and what you asked about — they never carry a document. If you would like your enquiry deleted sooner, ask us and we will delete whatever we are not legally required to keep.
8. How we protect it
The measures below are the ones that apply to this website. Our mobile app can do a few things a browser cannot — it pins our server certificate, blocks screenshots on the screens that show your ID documents, and detects a tampered-with phone. Those are app features. A website cannot provide them, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.
All communication between your browser and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS)
The session token for the motor quote journey is short-lived, is replaced every time it is used, and its active part is kept only in the page's memory — never written to browser storage
The keys that unlock our document-reading providers stay on our servers and are never sent to your browser
Documents you are still checking are never written to our servers' disks; only a submitted request is stored
The public forms and quote endpoints are rate-limited, and our servers accept requests only from our own websites
Error reports are scrubbed on your device before they are sent: no names, ID numbers, phone numbers, email addresses or form contents
Access to your file inside Methaq is limited to the staff who need it to serve you
No system is perfectly secure, but we take these measures seriously and review them regularly.
9. Your rights
Under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on the Protection of Personal Data, you have the right to:
Be told what personal data we hold about you, why we process it, who receives it inside and outside the UAE, and how long we keep it
Ask us to correct data that is wrong, and complete data that is missing
Ask us to delete your data
Ask us to stop or restrict how we use it
Object to our use of it, including any use for direct marketing
Receive the data you gave us in a machine-readable form, and ask us to pass it to another organisation where that is technically possible
Object to a decision made purely automatically, and ask for a person to review it
Withdraw any consent you have given, at any time. Withdrawing consent does not undo processing that was lawful before you withdrew it
To exercise any of these rights, email compliance@methaq.ae or call 600 565 695. We aim to respond within 30 days. Please note that some information — for example records we are legally required to keep (section 7) — may need to be retained even after a deletion request, to the extent the law requires.
If you are not satisfied, you also have the right to complain to the UAE Data Office.
10. Children
This website is intended for people aged 18 and over. The motor quote journey is for holders of a UAE driving licence. The site is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect information from them, except that a parent or guardian may give a child's name, date of birth and gender to get health cover for the family (section 2(c)). We use those details only for that quote and the cover that follows.
11. What we do NOT do
We do not track you across other websites
There is no advertising on this website, and no advertising identifiers are collected
There is no analytics on this website unless you accept it, and nothing that measures you for advertising
We do not sell your personal information to anyone
We do not ask your browser for your location
We do not send you marketing you did not ask for
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, tell you on the website.
